Terms of Sale
Who sells you the mat, what you are buying, and every right you have if you change your mind or something goes wrong.
Last updated 12 September 2026
The three things worth knowing before you pay
You have 14 days to change your mind, from the day the mat reaches you, for any reason or none. We do not hide behind the “made to order” exclusion — see section 9. You pay the postage to send it back.
The parcel ships from China, not from Italy. Import VAT is charged when we buy the mat for you, so it is already inside the €59.90 — our first parcel reached Italy on 10 September 2026 with nothing to pay at the door. We cannot promise that for every country and every courier. Details in section 8. We would rather you knew now.
Something wrong with the mat is a different thing from changing your mind, and it lasts two years, at our cost, return postage included — section 11.
1. Who you are buying from
Mapwyrm is the trading name of a one-person business in Italy. The seller, and the person legally responsible for your order, is:
Daniele Luigi Barbieri — sole trader (ditta individuale)Via Cavour 43, 18039 Ventimiglia (IM), Italy
Italian VAT number (P. IVA): 01827880087 — EU format IT01827880087
Italian tax code (codice fiscale): BRBDLL05P24I138H
Email: hello@mapwyrm.com
Telephone: +39 351 880 9045
Email is the way to reach us, and it is also the address for any complaint: it is one person here, and you will get a written answer. The telephone number above is a real number and it is answered — but it is a person, not a support desk, so if you call and nobody picks up, leave it with us by email and you will not have to explain yourself twice.
This business is not entered in the Italian Business Register (Registro delle Imprese), so there is no REA number to give you. The VAT number above is the identifier that matters, and you can check it yourself on the European Commission’s VIES service.
These terms were last updated on 12 September 2026.
2. Who these terms are for, and in what language
These terms apply to every order placed through this website. The website sells to consumers — people buying for purposes outside a trade or profession. Most of what follows, and in particular the 14-day right to withdraw in section 9, is a consumer right and belongs to you as a consumer.
If you buy as a business, with a VAT number and for your business, the consumer-only rights in sections 9 and 11 do not apply to you. That does not leave you with nothing: you keep the seller’s warranty against defects under articles 1490 and following of the Italian Civil Code, on its own terms — you must report the defect within 8 days of discovering it, and the claim expires one year after delivery. Everything else on this page applies to you as it does to anyone. Tell us before you order if that is your situation.
Language. This page exists in English and in Italian. The Italian version is a full translation of this one, not a summary, and it is at mapwyrm.com/it/terms.
Which one governs, said plainly rather than tucked into a clause: if you are a consumer resident in Italy, the Italian text is the one that binds us — Italian consumer law wants you to have this information in your own language, and a shop that then hides behind the English version has given you the translation as decoration. For everyone else the English text governs. If the two ever disagree despite our care, the reading more favourable to you as a consumer wins; and tell us, because it means we made a mistake and we would rather fix it than argue it.
If your browser offers you a machine translation into some other language, that is between you and your browser: only these two versions come from us. Want something explained before you buy? Write to hello@mapwyrm.com — we answer in English or Italian, and that is a promise, not a formality.
These terms do not take away any right you have under the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live. Where that law gives you more than this page does, that law wins.
3. What you are buying
One product, one size, one price. A rubber battle mat, 40 × 70 cm (15.7″ × 27.5″), 4 mm thick, with stitched edges and a non-slip base, printed with a 1-inch (25.4 mm) square grid.
You choose one of five fixed artworks — Crypt of the Fallen King, Vhelt Forest, The Griffon’s Tavern, Dunes of Karesh, The Frozen Abyss. You can try your own image in the local preview editor, but custom printing is not available to order. The editor does not send the file to us or to the printer; its download is a preview, not a print-ready file or an order. You may order up to 2 mats in a single order, and that limit is not arbitrary: above €150 of goods a parcel entering the EU loses the simplified customs treatment, and what you would pay on arrival would stop matching what section 8 tells you.
The artwork is generated with AI tools, then cropped by us to the exact proportions of the mat and gridded at a true one inch. No hand redrew it, and no colourist graded it. We say this openly because it is true, and because you deserve to know what you are putting on your table.
The grid is printed at the tabletop standard of one inch. Be clear about what that sentence is and is not: it is the specification we order from the printer, not a measurement we have taken with a ruler on a finished mat. Printing on rubber carries small tolerances in size, colour and alignment, and small variations are normal and are not a defect. A mat that is genuinely off — miscut, misprinted, unusable at the table — is a different matter, and section 11 covers it in full.
About the images on this site. Two different kinds of picture appear here, and it matters which is which.
The five map previews are the actual print files, shown as digital images: what you see is what gets printed. The pictures showing a mat on a table, being unrolled, or with a miniature standing on it are computer-generated images, not photographs. They exist to show scale and setting, and they were made before the first physical mat existed. We will replace them with real photographs as soon as we have them, and we will say so when we do.
Screens differ, and rubber is not paper: expect the physical print to be a little softer and darker than what you see on a bright display.
4. Price, taxes and payment
The price is €59.90 per mat, shipping included, for every destination we ship to. That is the full amount you pay us: there is nothing added at checkout, no handling fee, no surcharge for a particular artwork.
The parcel ships from China. Shipping and import VAT are included in the €59.90. Other duties or courier fees may be requested at delivery depending on the destination and are your responsibility. Our first sample delivered to Italy had no charges at delivery; this does not guarantee the same outcome in every country. Section 8 gives the details.
No VAT is charged on this sale. The seller operates under the Italian flat-rate regime for small businesses (regime forfettario, Law 190/2014, art. 1, paragraphs 54–89), which does not apply VAT and does not allow VAT to be deducted. So there is no Italian VAT line to add to the price above. This is a separate matter from any import charge raised in your own country.
Payment is handled by Stripe. You are taken to a payment page hosted by Stripe; we never see or store your card details. Which payment methods appear is decided by Stripe based on your country and the order — typically the major debit and credit cards, and in some countries options such as Klarna or Satispay. We do not restrict the list.
Stripe emails you a payment receipt. That receipt is proof that you paid: it is not an Italian fiscal document. If you need an invoice for your accounts, email hello@mapwyrm.com with your order reference and your billing details and we will tell you what we can issue under the flat-rate regime.
Prices can change at any time, but the price that binds us is the one shown on the site when you place your order. If an obvious pricing or catalogue error means we cannot honour an order, we will tell you before shipping and refund you in full — see section 5.
5. How the contract is made — the technical steps
This section is the information Italian e-commerce law (Legislative Decree 70/2003, art. 12) requires us to give you before you order.
The steps are these. One: on the product page you pick an artwork, confirm the single available size, and set the quantity with the plus and minus buttons. Two: you press “Buy now”, which sends you to Stripe’s checkout page. Three: on that page you enter your email, your delivery name and address, your phone number, and your payment details. Four: you confirm the payment. Nothing you do before step four costs you anything or commits you to anything.
How to correct a mistake: before you press “Buy now”, you can change artwork or quantity as often as you like simply by clicking again — nothing is saved and nothing is sent. On Stripe’s page you can edit any field you have typed, go back to the site, or close the page; an abandoned checkout creates no order. After you confirm payment there is no self-service way to change the order, because there are no customer accounts on this site: email hello@mapwyrm.com immediately with your order reference and we will fix what can still be fixed. Once the order has gone to the printer, changing it may no longer be possible — but your right to withdraw under section 9 still is.
When the contract is concluded: the contract exists when your payment succeeds. Stripe notifies our system, the order is recorded, and the confirmation email in section 6 is sent from that notification. Reaching the thank-you page is not itself the moment of conclusion; the successful payment is.
Filing and access: we record your order in our database and keep it for the periods described in our privacy notice. There is no login area where you can go back and read your contract, so the confirmation email is your copy — keep it. If you lose it, ask us and we will send it again.
We refuse orders only for real reasons: an obvious price or catalogue error, an address we cannot ship to, a payment our processor flags, or an order that is plainly for resale. If we refuse, you get every cent back, and we tell you why.
Codes of conduct: we do not subscribe to any commercial code of conduct or trustmark scheme. Nobody is auditing us. What binds us is the law and this page.
6. Your confirmation, on a durable medium
After your payment succeeds we email you a confirmation, in plain text, to the address you gave at checkout. Italian law requires it (Consumer Code, art. 51(7)) and it is the document you should keep.
It sets out what you ordered, the quantity, the total paid, the delivery address you gave, the delivery estimate, the fact that the parcel ships from outside the EU, that shipping and import VAT are included, and that other destination-dependent charges may apply, your 14-day right to withdraw, a short withdrawal form (the full model form from the Directive is in section 10), the two-year legal guarantee, how to complain, and the seller’s full identification.
This is not a promise we merely hope to keep. Our checkout refuses to open at all if the system that sends that email is not configured: it is better for the shop to be shut for an hour than to take your money and owe you a document we cannot produce.
We are a very small shop and email is still email. If nothing has arrived within a few hours, check your spam folder, then write to hello@mapwyrm.com with the reference shown on the thank-you page and we will resend it by hand. Never having received the email does not affect any of your rights.
7. Delivery, timing and delays
We ship to 36 countries: the 27 EU member states, plus Switzerland, Norway and Iceland, plus the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Singapore. That number is not a claim we typed into this page — it is the length of the list our checkout hands to Stripe, so it cannot drift away from what the shop actually accepts. If your country is not offered in the address field at checkout, we cannot ship to you yet.
Your mat is printed after you order it, by a third-party printing workshop in China, and it is dispatched from there directly to you. We do not hold stock and the parcel never passes through Italy.
Estimated delivery is 10 to 19 calendar days from the day your payment is confirmed. To be precise about where that number comes from: our supplier’s own page declares 10 to 19 days, and that is exactly the window we quote — we have not padded it. So those days are already spoken for, and one of them is a step no machine performs: a person, the seller, sends the print file to the workshop and waits for written confirmation before anything goes on the press. If that person is asleep, travelling or ill, a day or two goes by. We would rather tell you that than pretend it does not exist. Customs inspections, peak seasons and local carrier problems can add more.
We email you a tracking number by hand once the parcel has one. It is typed by a person, not generated automatically, so it may arrive some hours after the mat actually ships.
If we are late: if the mat has not arrived within the estimated window and it matters to you, write to us and give us a further reasonable period in writing. If we still fail to deliver within that period, you may cancel the contract and we refund everything you paid, without undue delay. If the delivery date was essential and you told us so before ordering, you may cancel straight away. These are your rights under art. 61 of the Italian Consumer Code and they cost you nothing to use.
Risk passes to you when you — or someone you have designated, other than the carrier — physically take possession of the parcel. If it is lost or damaged in transit before that, it is our problem, not yours. Tell us and we sort it out.
You are responsible for the address you type. If a parcel comes back to the supplier because the address was wrong or incomplete, or because nobody collected it, we will contact you; reshipping may cost extra and we will tell you the amount before doing anything.
8. Import duties, taxes and customs charges
Import VAT is already inside the price. Our first parcel reached Italy on 10 September 2026 with nothing to pay at the door.
Your parcel ships from China. The import VAT is charged when we buy the mat for you from our printer’s marketplace, which declares and pays it on your behalf — so it is not waiting for you on arrival. What follows is exactly what we know and what we still cannot promise.
Two things people get wrong about the €150, so we will be exact. The VAT exemption for low-value parcels did not end in 2026 — it ended on 1 July 2021, and import VAT has been due on any value since. What ended on 1 July 2026 is the exemption from customs duty, replaced until 1 July 2028 by a flat duty of €3 per item. And the €150 figure has not disappeared: it is still the ceiling below which a parcel gets the simplified customs treatment at all, which is exactly why section 3 caps an order at 2 mats.
That flat duty is owed by whoever declares the goods, not automatically by you. What reaches your door depends on how the carrier handles the parcel, and we will not pretend to know that in advance.
Until 10 September 2026 this section told you to budget €16–32 at the door. That was honest arithmetic — and it rested on a wrong assumption: that the import VAT would be collected from you on arrival. It is not. It is collected from us at the moment of purchase, on the declared value, and it is inside the €59.90 you pay. We know because our first parcel, shipped exactly the way yours will be, arrived in Italy with nothing to pay. We have left the correction visible rather than quietly deleting the old figure.
What we still cannot promise. That was one parcel, to one country, before the rules on small parcels change again in the autumn. The flat duty above is owed by whoever declares the goods; a courier in another country may still ask you for a small duty or a handling charge on arrival. If that happens, tell us: we record every case and this section will say so. Your national customs authority remains the only place to get a binding answer.
Outside the EU — Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore — thresholds and rates vary a great deal, and some destinations will let a parcel of this value through with nothing to pay. Your national customs authority is the only reliable source.
If a courier does ask for something, that charge is payable by you, the recipient. It is not included in the €59.90, we do not collect it, we do not control it, and we cannot refund it. We are telling you this before you buy precisely so that nothing at your door is a surprise — and so far, nothing has been.
If a parcel is refused at customs or abandoned there and comes back to the supplier, we will refund the price of the mat once it is back, minus any charge the carrier passes on to us for the return.
One thing to be clear about: if you withdraw under section 9, we refund what you paid us. Import charges you paid to your own customs authority are between you and them — many countries let you reclaim them when goods are returned, and you should ask them how.
9. Changing your mind — 14 days, no reason needed
You have 14 days to withdraw from this purchase, for any reason or for no reason at all. You do not have to explain yourself and we will not ask.
The 14 days run from the day you — or someone you designated — take physical possession of the mat. If your order arrives in several parcels, the clock starts from the last one.
The fastest way to do it is the withdrawal function at mapwyrm.com/withdraw — there is a link to it in the footer of every page on this site, and it is there for as long as your right lasts. It takes your name, your email and, if you have it, your order number; you press Confirm withdrawal and we send you an acknowledgement of receipt carrying the exact text of your notice and the date and time it reached us. That is the tool required by Article 54-bis of the Italian Consumer Code, and using it is not worth any less than writing to us — it is just quicker and it timestamps itself.
This applies in full to every mat we sell. We want to be explicit about it, because shops in our position often claim the opposite. The exclusion from withdrawal for goods “made to the consumer’s specifications or clearly personalised” does not apply here: you choose from a fixed catalogue of five artworks in one size and you send us nothing of your own. That we print after the order is our stock decision, not a personalisation you asked for. The European Commission’s guidance on the Consumer Rights Directive (2021/C 525/01, section 5.11.2) says exactly this — goods the consumer merely selects from options the trader has prepared are not “personalised”. And in Möbel Kraft (C-529/19) the Court of Justice held that the moment production starts is irrelevant either way: the exclusion turns on whether the consumer set the specifications, not on how far along the order is. Here you set nothing, so there is no exclusion.
How to withdraw: send us a clear statement before the 14 days are up. Email hello@mapwyrm.com, or post it to Daniele Luigi Barbieri, Via Cavour 43, 18039 Ventimiglia (IM), Italy. You may use the model form in section 10, but you do not have to — any unambiguous statement that you are withdrawing is enough. Sending it within the 14 days is what counts, not when we read it.
Sending the mat back: you have 14 days from telling us to send the mat back, and the direct cost of return shipping is yours. We are stating this before you buy, as art. 57(1) of the Consumer Code requires, and it is the reason we can charge it. From Europe or North America that cost can be a real fraction of the price of the mat, so factor it in. Write to us first: in some cases we may decide, in writing, that you need not send it back and refund you anyway. That is a choice we make, never an obligation you can assume.
Your refund: we refund everything you paid us, the original shipping included, using the same payment method you used, within 14 days of receiving your withdrawal notice. We may hold the refund until the mat is back with us or until you show proof that you have sent it, whichever comes first. The refund itself costs you nothing.
Handling the mat: you may unroll it and look at it, as you would in a shop. If it comes back with the marks of a campaign fought across it, we may reduce the refund by the loss in value that goes beyond what was needed to establish its nature and characteristics (art. 57(2) Consumer Code).
If you withdraw, that is the end of the contract for both of us, and for any part of it we had already performed.
10. Model withdrawal form
This is the standard form from Annex I, Part B of Directive 2011/83/EU. Copy it, fill it in and send it to us. Using it is optional — an email in your own words works just as well.
11. If something is wrong with it — the two-year legal guarantee
This is a different thing from changing your mind, and it lasts far longer. Under EU and Italian law you have a legal guarantee of conformity for two years from delivery. It covers a mat that arrives damaged, misprinted, cut wrong, falling apart at the stitching, or simply not as described on this site.
The choice between repair and replacement is yours, not ours. That is art. 135-bis(2) of the Consumer Code: you say which of the two you want, and we do it, at no cost to you. We can propose the other one only if the one you asked for is impossible or would cost us disproportionately more — and if we say that, we have to explain why. If neither repair nor replacement works out, you can have a price reduction or the contract terminated with a full refund. “At no cost to you” is not a figure of speech: return postage, in this case, is on us. This guarantee is free.
How to use it: email hello@mapwyrm.com with your order reference and a photograph of the problem. A photo usually settles it in one message, and it saves you shipping a rubber mat across a continent for nothing. If we need it back, we arrange and pay for that.
There is no extra commercial warranty. We say so because the law requires us to (art. 49(1)(o) Consumer Code) and because it is honest: the legal guarantee above is already the stronger of the two, and a shop our size promising more would be promising something it could not keep.
Normal wear from use, damage you cause, and the small print tolerances described in section 3 are not defects. Everything else, for two years, is ours to fix.
12. Product safety and manufacturer information (GPSR)
Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety requires an online offer to name the manufacturer, with a postal and an electronic address, and — only where the manufacturer is not established in the Union — a responsible person who is.
Manufacturer:
Daniele Luigi Barbieri — trading as MapwyrmVia Cavour 43, 18039 Ventimiglia (IM), Italy
VAT IT01827880087
hello@mapwyrm.com
Why the manufacturer is us, and not the workshop. The artwork is ours, the print file is ours, the specification is ours, and the mat is sold under our own name. Article 3(8) of the Regulation calls a manufacturer anyone who has a product designed or made and markets it under their own name or trademark; Article 13(1) says the same of anyone who places a product on the market under their own name or trademark. Both describe us. Printing, cutting and stitching are done by a third-party workshop in China working to our file and our brief: that workshop is our supplier, not the manufacturer under the Regulation, and it does not answer to you — we do. We hold its identity and will give it to any market surveillance authority that asks, as Article 15(3) requires.
Responsible person in the Union: the same person and the same address as above. The manufacturer is established in Italy, so under Article 16 of the Regulation and Article 4 of Regulation (EU) 2019/1020 there is nobody else to name, and no second address. Safety questions, incident reports and requests for technical documentation go to hello@mapwyrm.com, and they are answered.
How to identify your mat. In one corner of every print file we send to the printer there is a line carrying our name, this postal and email address, and the model code — for example MAPWYRM · MAT-CRIPTA-STD · 70x40 cm · 4 mm. Quote that code if you ever write to us about a safety problem: it tells us exactly which artwork file and which specification were used for your piece.
The product itself: a rubber mat with a printed surface and stitched edges, for use on a table. It is not a toy and is not intended for children under 3, and the packaging film should be kept away from small children. Clean it with a damp cloth and mild soap; do not machine wash, tumble dry, iron, or leave it in direct sun for long periods.
One thing we have not verified, and will not pretend we have. Our supplier describes the mat as natural rubber, and that is what we repeat. We have not yet obtained a material declaration or a REACH statement from the workshop, and we have asked for one. Until it arrives, treat “natural rubber” as the supplier’s description rather than something we have tested. This page changes the day we have the document.
If you believe a mat you received is unsafe, write to hello@mapwyrm.com. We are required to act on that and we will.
13. Complaints, and how disputes get resolved
Start with us. Email hello@mapwyrm.com with your order reference and what went wrong. It is one person reading, and most things are settled in a message or two. We answer complaints in writing, in English or Italian.
Alternative dispute resolution: we are not signed up to any ADR body and are not obliged to use one. If a complaint cannot be settled between us, you may still bring it to a recognised ADR or conciliation body in your own country — in Italy, for example, the conciliation services run by the Chambers of Commerce.
About the European ODR platform: the EU’s online dispute resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr, which shops were required to link to for years, was shut down on 20 July 2025 under Regulation (EU) 2024/3228. We are not giving you that link, because it no longer leads anywhere useful.
If you live in an EU country, in Norway or in Iceland and have a cross-border problem with us, the European Consumer Centres Network (ECC-Net) will help you free of charge; each country has its own centre and you can find yours through the European Commission’s consumer pages.
None of this replaces your right to go to court, and using any of it is voluntary.
14. Applicable law and competent court
This contract is governed by Italian law, and by the EU law that applies in Italy. If you live in another country, this choice does not deprive you of the protection given to you by the mandatory consumer rules of the country where you habitually live.
If you are a consumer and it comes to a court case, the competent court is the one for the place where you live or are domiciled. That is your right under art. 66-bis of the Italian Consumer Code and we cannot contract out of it — this page does not try to.
If you bought as a business, the competent court is the Court of Imperia, Italy. Note for anyone checking: there is no court in Ventimiglia; the court with jurisdiction over this address is Imperia.
If any part of these terms turns out to be invalid or unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
15. A few remaining things
Artwork and copyright: the mats and their artwork are ours. Buying a mat buys you the mat — use it at your table, photograph it, show it to your players, post it. It does not transfer the artwork to you, and it does not allow you to reproduce, resell or manufacture products from the designs.
Your data: how we handle your name, address, phone number and email — including what we send to the printing workshop and what we keep for accounting — is set out in our privacy notice. In short: the workshop receives your name, phone number and delivery address, and nothing else.
Changes to these terms: we may update this page. The version that governs your order is the one published when you placed it, and the date at the top tells you which version you are reading. Changes are never applied backwards to an order already placed.
Anything unclear on this page is worth an email. We would rather answer a question before you buy than argue about it after.
